Hope Again Uganda Children Soldiers Conference
August 27-29, 2008

110 fomer child soldiers met in Uganda at the Hope Again Uganda conference, including girls and boys, young women and young men ages 14 to 26. Africa Centre was honored to help local Boulder student Zack Gross make his vision into a reality. Africa Centre provided fiscal sponsorship and coordination support to Zack, as he and his team raised over $35,000 in funds and hold the conference in Uganda. (Video and article)


Alexander Dawson Africa Program & Exhibit

March 2007

Students and teachers at Alexander Dawson School chose Africa as the theme for a week-long session in March 2007. Africa Centre provided coordination of a museum exhibit as well as helped identify drumming teacher and caterer, and other resources for the week. 


Books for Africa

Ongoing

The students and teachers of Alexander Dawson School collected 6,000 quality books, with the fiscal sponsorship and coordination assistance of the Africa Centre. The Africa Centre developed guidelines for appropriate books, helped identify publishers for textbook donations, and coordinated the travel for the group of 13 students and 10 parents that distributed the books and soccer balls, and built desks for twelve schools in Kenya in July 2004. Other recipients include schools in Ghana and Uganda.

Provided materials, posters, and cloths for table displays by region. Helped coordinate performers and caterers. LogoLigi dance troupe performed at the event.


Africa in the Rockies

April 5-6, 2003

University of Colorado, Boulder and Boulder Museum of Contemporary Arts

With a grant from the Woodrow Wilson Foundation, the University of Colorado's Laura DeLuca and the Africa Centre partnered to publish the Directory of Colorado Africanist Resources, provide seminars for 60 K-12 teachers on the first day, and a second day open to the public to introduce African cultural resources to the community.
